🏋️‍♀️ Member Spotlight: Angela & Anita Take on the Deadly Dozen
This weekend, two of our amazing members — Angela and Anita — took on the Deadly Dozen Doubles event in Macclesfield. Both of them put their training, determination, and teamwork to the test, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements!
Angela’s Experience 💬
Angela initially had her sights set on the relay event, but with spots sold out, she jumped at the chance to team up for the doubles — expecting to split the labours and the running evenly, 50/50.
“Training outdoors in all weathers really prepared us for the unexpected on the day. We thought it would feel similar to a Manchester Outdoor Fitness session, with our strength PTs and running training with Paul Burns mixed in — although I still knew I had to get some serious run practice in too!”
For Angela, the biggest challenge was clear: the running.
“Running has never been my strong point, so that was by far the hardest part for me. Crossing the finish line felt amazing — such a huge relief knowing it was done! Now that I’ve experienced it once, I know exactly what to expect, and I’m confident I’d do even better next time. Give me six months, and I’ll be ready to take on the challenge again!”
Train hard, fight easy!
“A huge thank you to Paul Burns for all the strength and run coaching, and to Manchester Outdoor Fitness for pushing us through every tough session. Your support made all the difference — we couldn’t have done it without you!”

Anita’s Experience 💬
For Anita, the Deadly Dozen was a chance to test the strength she’d built from training.
“Having added strength training to Manchester Outdoor Fitness sessions, I was keen to see how far I had come. MF training meant we weren’t phased by the outdoor aspect — it’s what we’re used to! Many of the labours were skills we already practise in our sessions.”
Preparation paid off:
“Being mentally prepared and having trained adequately helped get me through. Seeing other people competing — knowing we were about to do that too — was a huge motivator. Crossing the finish line brought both relief and pride.”
Anita was also encouraged by how effective her training plan had been:
“Yes, I surprised myself. The training worked well! My advice to others would be: go for it. It’s a fun event that’s achievable for all Manchester Outdoor Fitness members. Big thanks to PT Paul Burns for strength and technique, and to all the Manchester Outdoor Fitness coaches, members, and teammates. Bring on the next challenge!”
